Workplace
Workplace cameras are a valuable source of information in the day to day operation of a business. Cameras monitor employee productivity, track customer volume, prevent or solve issues within the workplace. The camera or cameras are manageable from multiple locations or from a central headquarters. A security camera is a great way of providing information to a business owner or manager.
A business owner can also help their employees when they are not at their place of business. A camera will provide the business owner the opportunity to see the problem and offer a solution while not physically at the place of business. This is done through the internet with the proper software and a broadband connection.
Home
Surveillance cameras are extremely beneficial in helping to secure the perimeter of your home. Cameras posted on each corner of you house can act as a sentry, alerting the home owner to potential dangers. Installing cameras inside your home can help protect valuables, monitor activities such as watching over children or an elderly parent while away from home.
Simply said, cameras can monitor the activities of everyone within its field of view whether the activity is indoors or outdoors, day or night.
Surveillance cameras are useful in remote rural areas. On a ranch or farm cameras are used to observe livestock and monitor activities in the barn area.
Use a surveillance camera to discover an unknown issue.
An Example: Not long ago I went to deposit some garbage into my outside garbage can. When I was near the garbage container I could see something had caused my garbage to be spread all around the container. It was obvious to some kind of animal had gotten into my garbage. I was really curious to find out what it was. My wife said, "Dave set up one of your surveillance cameras and see what is causing the problem, this way you will not blame the neighbors cat, unless it is the cat." I said, "Thank you for the great idea." I hooked up a wireless surveillance camera to record upon motion activation. Within a few days I had this video of a raccoon digging through the garbage can. I built an enclosure to prevent the raccoon from getting into the garbage can and fixed the problem.
My surveillance camera did its job by capturing the video and then it was recorded to a DVR (digital video recorder) and this allowed me to see instead of wonder what was happening to my garbage.

Portable and Body Worn Surveillance Cameras
Surveillance cameras are used in individual surveillance when tiny cameras are implanted into neckties and other housings that are not noticeable. The video camera pen is a good example of a portable surveillance camcorder. These small cameras are used to record the activities of its viewing area without anyone knowing they are being recorded. This type of surveillance may violate laws so if you are going to do undercover surveillance please learn the laws of the jurisdiction you are living in.
Surveillance cameras are available with microphones and speakers for any application that is imaginable. Just make sure that you use the camera or cameras within the confines of the law.
